How can a business prepare for something like this? There are a few things that will probably need to happen in order to entice people to stay with their companies.

  • Many Baby Boomers are healthier and more active than previous generations. If companies can keep them interested they will probably continue working with their companies.
  • Businesses will need to embrace the expectations of Generation Y workers such as including benefits like working from home and a dynamic work environment.
  • Keep your older workers by making sure that their efforts are recognized and there is enough support from supervisors and coworkers.

By looking ahead and ensuring that your workers are happy and well taken care of, you can avoid problems in the future when the job market shifts and you may be looking at a shortage of skilled workers.
